Briana Tarby, originally from Edison, NJ, is the Co-Principal Oboe of the United States Coast Guard Band, performing for the public and in national/military ceremonies around the nation. She also heads the social media department for the band. Additionally, she performs often in orchestras around Southern New England, including the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, and others, and has conducted master classes for high school and college oboe students throughout the country. Briana received a Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University in 2010, where she was the winner of the 2010 Woodwind Concerto Competition. She also completed requirements for a Master of Music degree from The New School’s Mannes School of Music in 2012 and was a winner of the college’s school-wide 2012 Concerto Competition. Briana has spent summers studying at Brevard Music Center and Aspen Music Festival and School. Her principal teachers have been Elaine Douvas, Roger Roe, Linda Strommen and Andy Adelson.
Outside of making reeds and playing oboe, Briana is an advocate and educator in women’s health. She is a fertility awareness educator and facilitator/coach of menstrual cycle awareness practice. Briana’s hobbies include pole dancing/conditioning, intuitive movement/dance, meditation, and writing.
