
RYAN FOLEY has served as co-principal flute of the United States Coast Guard Band since March 2019. Through his role in the band, Ryan has performed for dignitaries at renowned concert halls across the country and internationally. Foley’s orchestral engagements include frequent substitute appearances with orchestras across New England, including the Hartford, Waterbury, Eastern Connecticut, New Britain, New Bedford, and Wallingford Symphony Orchestras. Additionally, he has acted as the Principal Flute of the Density 512 and New England Chamber Orchestras and has performed on the traverso flute with the Austinato Early Music Ensemble.
In addition to his active performance career, Ryan has a passion for teaching. He is currently Instructor of Flute at Connecticut College and has previously taught at the Thames Valley Music School, Lamar Fine Arts Academy, and maintains a private studio. Ryan earned his Master of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Texas at Austin in 2018, his Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Brigham Young University in 2015. Prior to joining the band he was pursuing an Advanced Musical Studies Certificate at Carnegie Mellon University. Ryan’s primary teachers were Lorna McGhee, Marianne Gedigian, April Clayton, and Elaine Brown.
